I started my astronomy and astrophotography hobby many years ago and it has taken a rather wandering path.

Simple telescopes on truly entry quality portable mounts have given way to higher quality optics on a permanent mount and observatory. Sky glow of city life was traded for the darker skies of country living. Visual observing has evolved to filtered dedicated cooled monochrome CCD viewing. The nightly tasks of polar alignment and manual focusing are now fully automated.

Building a roll-off observatory, making circuits to enable automation for weather, roof control, and integrating them into commercial observatory software have shown astrophotography is more than just pictures.
